In the midst of covid and the black lives matter movement, a friend and I wanted to put our passions for music and concerts to use. Thus we spawned UNION FEST, a virtual music festival dedicated to celebrating black artists and raising money to give to local black-owned businesses.

Neither of us had much experience in throwing a virtual music festival, but we divided responsibilities based on skill set. He took on logisitics and finance, I’d handle design and operations.

I wanted to create a design system that would be recognizable across the many assets needed, while also being minimal enough to not distract from the intent of the festival.

From learning about the importance of connected design systems to programming an OBS live stream, I gained an immense amount of knowledge and confidence in the work I can create.
